My name is Kris.
I’m a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under Emil Takeuchi, and a Level II student of Krav Maga.
You’re probably thinking, ‘at 40-something, shouldn’t you have 3 black belts in BJJ, or be Level 50 in Krav? Well, as you’ll learn, I’m a bit of a late-bloomer in the combat arts. Now at 43 yrs old, I made the decision that my 40’s were going to be WAY better than my 30s. Both physically, mentally, and emotionally!
So in January 2012, I, along with my good friend Kevin, joined the Krav Maga Northern Virginia gym – a fantastic school that teaches the official defensive tactics system of the Israeli military: Krav Maga. Additionally, the gym teaches Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and a host of combat-focused classes throughout the week. Since that first January workout (which nearly killed me), I’ve been hooked! As of January 2016, I have paused my Krav Maga training, and focus on Jiu Jitsu three days a week. And with four years under my belt, I’m just now learning how this is changing my life for the better.
Thank you for visiting my blog. I hope you enjoy reading about my journey in these combat arts.
Post-workout happiness! (L-R) Dale, Me, Kevin
